MGO 30+ Manuka Honey has a naturally occurring minimum of 30mg/kg methylgyoxal content which is responsible for the properties in Manuka Honey.
Manuka Honey is collected from a plant that is unique to New Zealand - Leptospermum scoparium. Manuka flowers have a strong fragrance and are full of the nectar which provides this dark, creamy honey.
MGO Manuka Honey is labelled based on the minimum methylglyoxal content (mg/kg) it contains. Methylglyoxal is the compound directly responsible for the remarkable properties of Manuka honey and the MGO rating clearly indicates the minimum level of this compound in each jar. No other system of measurement gives such a clear and simple indication. The higher the MGO rating the more methylglyoxal content.
